BAND TO PLAY FIRST RECORD IN ITS ENTIRETY ON UPCOMING U.S. TOUR
(Los Angeles, CA – January 21, 2014) – G. Love & Special Sauce will spend 2014 celebrating the 20th Anniversary of their self-titled debut with a brand new album built on the trio’s signature hip-hop blues sound.Sugar, which will be released on April 22nd via Brushfire Records, reunites original members G. Love, upright bassist James “Jimi Jazz” Prescott, and drummer Jeffrey “The Houseman” Clemens for the first time in eight years. The band has also confirmed a 45-date U.S. tour, and will perform their first album,G. Love & Special Sauce, in it’s entirety during the first set of each show. The 1994 classic album features some favorite fan hits including “Cold Beverage” and “Baby’s Got Sauce.” The tour will include performances at Brooklyn Bowl, House of Blues in Los Angeles, and 2 nights in G. Love’s hometown of Philadelphia. A full tour itinerary is available below.
Recorded mainly at Brushfire Records’ “Solar Powered Plastic Plant” studio in Los Angeles,Sugarcaptures the unstoppable energy of a band who got their start in Boston bars in the early ‘90s and still play up to 150 shows a year. “We wanted to take it back to the old-school vibe of the first record, those rich, warm sounds from when we were rocking small clubs and going on that acoustic feeling,” says Prescott. To deepen that dynamic and push their sound into new directions, G. Love & Special Sauce called in guest musicians including legendary vocalist and current Oscar nominee Merry Clayton (best known for her duet with Mick Jagger on the Rolling Stone’s “Gimme Shelter”), Los Lobos guitarist David Hidalgo, Marc Broussard, Eric Krasno, Shamarr Allen, Kristy Lee, and others.
RollingStone.com will exclusively premiere the video for the first single, “Nothing Quite Like Home,” on January 23rd, which was directed Grammy winning director, Emmett Malloy.
